RYA Scotland Instructor Continual Professional Development Days 2011
Dear Instructor,
2011 Instructor Skills Development Days
The success of this programme in 2010 has meant that we can provide this training again in 2011. There is a wide variety of training on offer, most of it focussing on dinghy and powerboat skills – so there is scope for the windsurfers among us to set something up – just let me know if you have an idea.
16th & 17th April – Banff Keelboat Sailing Weekend – the weekend costs £20, and is an ideal chance to get out on the water in Hunter 707s, with a qualified Keelboat Coach, Ewan Stirling. This is not an endorsement course, but it is a great way of learning about keelboats, and enjoying some quality sailing in the Banff area. There is one place left – please email neil707sailing@hotmail.co.uk to book a place
24th April – Largs Double Handed Dinghy Sailing – this day of training is looking at taking a single handed sailor into double handed boats, looking at the communication required, the differences between sailing the single handers/ double handers, and developing spinnaker skills. This day of training costs £10, and is being delivered by Ally Young, RYA Scotland Squad Coach and coach assessor, and to book on please email; info@lsta.org.uk.
30th April – Royal Gourock YC Keelboat Day – Ally Young will be delivering this day of training, which is open to anyone looking at how to teach keelboat sailing, as well as develop your skills in sailing a keelboat. The places are limited for this training, so please book early – email royalgourockyachtclub@hotmail.co.uk
30th April – Orkney SC Double Handed Day and Race Management Day - Orkney SC are hosting two kinds of training on 30th April, Race Management – aimed at helping people understand how to set up and run a race, and develop their knowledge around improving racing activities with Iona Cornish, and Instructor Training in Double Handers – similar to Largs SC with Ewan Stirling.
1st May – Prestwick SC Junior and Youth Powerboating Training for instructors – Simon Paterson will be leading this day of training, which is looking specifically at working with junior and youth powerboaters, and training them up to work with the Honda RYA Youth RIB Championships. The cost of this day is £10, and to book a place please email Alex McRobbie on alexmcrobbie@hotmail.co.uk.
14th May (late afternoon) & 15th May (morning) – Lochmaddy/ Uist Outdoor Centre – I will be running an afternoon of discussion for Instructors in the Outer Hebrides on 14th May, from 1500hrs to 1630hrs, and the following morning, I will run some activity between 1000hrs and 1300hrs for Instructors. I will also be running a Start Up Workshop for a proposed sailing development group in the Outer Hebrides in the early part of the day on 14th May. To indicate your intention to attend these meetings, please email gail.joyce@ryascotland.org.uk so we can arrange sufficient facilities.
I hope you find all of these days useful, and that you try to get to at least one of them – this is a valuable opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills, and to have lots of fun on the water.
regards
