HMS Seminar 2012

28/9/2011

Dear Reps,

The last HMS meeting decided to hold the 2012 seminar on Saturday, 3 March 2012; however, on checking, that date clashes with an RYAS NS weekend and I would not want any dinghy coaches or sailors to have to miss the event so I propose that we slip to Saturday, 10 March 2012 (this date is clear on the RYAS calendar). I realise that a lot of cruiser owners will be thinking about anti-fouling in March but realistically the date cannot come forward without clashing with major events such as the RYAS Big Weekend (25/26 February) or perhaps running the risk of even worse weather! If you have a problem with 10 March, please let me know by 10 October...otherwise 10 March will become the firm date.

We need to start working on themes & speakers for the seminar and also think about a location. I would like to see something of interest for cruising, dinghy racing and powerboating sailors...possibly something for club officials too. If you have any thoughts, please share them by email. Regarding location, I think we should plan for 100 attendees and we will need 3 rooms capable of taking groups of 30 to 60, reasonable access, parking & some catering options. Again if you have any thoughts on the matter please let me know.

Finally, our next meeting is scheduled for 8 November and we are still looking for a club or centre to volunteer to host this (otherwise we will have to hire a facility)...the main purpose of the 8 November meeting is to agree the seminar arrangements so investing some time to it now should result in something you will want to got to!

Notice to Mariners - Kessock Bridge

27/9/2011

Dear All,                        27th Sept 2011

Kessock Bridge navigation lights - Notice to mariners 04/2011

Please accept my apologies for the delay in repairing these lights.
I have inspected them this morning myself before dawn and enclose a new Notice to Mariners 04/2011.
The SE and SW Occ Red 6s have failed completely.
The NE and NW Occ Gr 6s have become intermittent and therefore out of character.
They are 29 years old and I am trying to replace all four but it has proven to be difficult to accomplish.

North of Scotland Dinghy Championship - 17 September 2011

13/9/2011

An excellent day's racing despite the rain while we packed up! Thanks to everyone at L Morlich SC for organising and delivering a very good event and not forgetting the catering team. That soup was wonderful.

HMS & RYAS news

Hope the season has been treating you well, below are some points from RYA Scotland and Highland and Moray Sailing you may be interested in.
  1. RYA Scotland North Squad Applications need to be in by Sept 12
  2. HMS ran a very successful powerboat event in conjunction with Powerboat Scotland details at MorayRIBRendezvous
  3. There will be a powerboat Instructor course n the HMS region October or November and there are a couple of spaces left.

And calling all cruiser sailors:

Hi to All Skippers,

Hopefully some of you are aware Findhorn Marina is planning a Rya informal trining event for keel boats and cruisers on the 1st/2ndOctober.

I am still at the planning stage, but the idea is for Skippers to volunteer to encourage new crews to develop skills on the passage to Findhorn from your home port, a race round the cans before entering the bay and relaxing. In the evening have a meal at the marina and some form of talk/entertainment (the marina is licensed). Then on the following day, a passage race home.

As I said I am at the planning stage so if you have better idea let me know.

The Questions I would like to ask are
  1. Are you as a skipper willing to take on crew and if so how many?
  2. Would you be willing to accommodate crew on board?
  3. As a new Skipper would you like a qualified instructor on board to give you some helpful hints/tips?
I would be greatful if you could let me know your thoughts and if you are considering taking part then the answers to the questions. This information will enable me to start planning and putting people in touch with each other.

Yours
