Dear Reps, The last HMS meeting decided to hold the 2012 seminar on Saturday, 3 March 2012; however, on checking, that date clashes with an RYAS NS weekend and I would not want any dinghy coaches or sailors to have to miss the event so I propose that we slip to Saturday, 10 March 2012 (this date is clear on the RYAS calendar). I realise that a lot of cruiser owners will be thinking about anti-fouling in March but realistically the date cannot come forward without clashing with major events such as the RYAS Big Weekend (25/26 February) or perhaps running the risk of even worse weather! If you have a problem with 10 March, please let me know by 10 October...otherwise 10 March will become the firm date. We need to start working on themes & speakers for the seminar and also think about a location. I would like to see something of interest for cruising, dinghy racing and powerboating sailors...possibly something for club officials too. If you have any thoughts, please share them by email. Regarding location, I think we should plan for 100 attendees and we will need 3 rooms capable of taking groups of 30 to 60, reasonable access, parking & some catering options. Again if you have any thoughts on the matter please let me know. Finally, our next meeting is scheduled for 8 November and we are still looking for a club or centre to volunteer to host this (otherwise we will have to hire a facility)...the main purpose of the 8 November meeting is to agree the seminar arrangements so investing some time to it now should result in something you will want to got to! Richard Please add this date to your diary, and be prepared for more detailed information to be sent out shortly. While much of the programme for the day will be keel boat and cruiser focused there will be some additions that should appeal to a wider audience. To start with, we need to have our discussion, delayed from December, on the way ahead with Open Race Training - there will be a proposal put forward which should interest all the clubs supporting this initiative. To follow this up, there will be a couple of workshops under the general title 'pathway to the future' aimed at coaches, instructors, Principals and parents on how to link junior dinghy racing activities from club to national level with all the steps in between. The cruising programme will have workshops on sails and marina manoeuvring as well as safety and survival aspects. There will also be an environment topic so this day is for all the crew, not just the one 'in command'. | HMS BlogHMS news, agendas and meeting notes will be published here.
