Hope the season has been treating you well, below are some points from RYA Scotland and Highland and Moray Sailing you may be interested in.
And calling all cruiser sailors: Hi to All Skippers, Hopefully some of you are aware Findhorn Marina is planning a Rya informal trining event for keel boats and cruisers on the 1st/2ndOctober. I am still at the planning stage, but the idea is for Skippers to volunteer to encourage new crews to develop skills on the passage to Findhorn from your home port, a race round the cans before entering the bay and relaxing. In the evening have a meal at the marina and some form of talk/entertainment (the marina is licensed). Then on the following day, a passage race home. As I said I am at the planning stage so if you have better idea let me know. The Questions I would like to ask are

There are some changes in the wind regarding support for sports volunteers. Sportscotland is establishing a presence in the Highlands and it seems that any future funding we may be able to access to support coaches and instructors will, at least in part, come from them; however, sailing does not appear in their strategy document for the Highlands & Islands. We've made contact with their rep in Dingwall but we will all need to pull together to make ourselves be heard and one important step in this will be some sort of analysis or audit that allows us to inform Sportscotland about the size and activities of the HMS community. RYAS is also keen to conduct a nationwide audit and these important matters will be open for discussion on 23 September so your input would be most welcome. The changes to NoSSS (now RYAS North Squad) take place this autumn and the support for Open Race Training to fill the void that the changes cause is gathering a lot of support - the details will be briefed on 23 September. This next meeting is also the chance to propose group activities for 2011 and to discuss a possible HMS seminar. If you've not been there here is a map.
